PH AND THE HUMAN BODY

My background in holistic health and the human body started about 13 years ago, when my partner had a cervical cancer scare which triggered me to search for natural remedies, which has led me to various discoveries. Fast forward I have gained a good knowledge of holistic new and ancient remedies and have produced a drinks line with this knowledge, all drinks are alkaline and promote and support different aspects of health.

What I have discovered in researching various holistic gurus (new and old) and what I found is that cancers and diseases cannot survive in an alkaline environment, as the human body is mostly water so this is not surprising, research shows Ph plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health. The optimal pH range for human blood is slightly alkaline, between 7.35 and 7.45. Deviations from this range can disrupt bodily functions and lead to various health issues The pH in our body may vary considerably from one area to another with the highest acidity in the stomach (pH of 1.35 to 3.5) to aid in digestion and protect against opportunistic microbial organisms. But even in the stomach, the layer just outside the epithelium is quite basic to prevent mucosal injury. It has been suggested that decreased gastric lining secretion of bicarbonates and a decrease in the alkaline/acid secretion in duodenal ulcer patients may play a significant role in duodenal ulcers (Schwalfenberg, 2012).

So, what does pH mean? pH, or "potential of hydrogen," quantifies the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution for (those who don't know hydrogen is an important element for moving oxygen around the body). The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, with lower values being more acidic, higher values more alkaline, and 7.2 considered neutral (Bahrami and Greiner, 2021). The body meticulously regulates pH levels, especially in the blood, to ensure that metabolic processes function optimally. kidneys and lungs are the primary organs responsible for maintaining this balance, so its important to eat and drink what would promote healthy balance, by consuming such things as drinking fizzy drinks or dairy products you make your body pH drop leading too illness. In extreme cases of deviation can lead to Acidosis which is a condition where the blood becomes too acidic (pH falls below 7.35). Symptoms may include fatigue, confusion, shortness of breath, and headaches. Severe acidosis can impair organ function, cause cancers and become life-threatening, the other end of the pH spectrum you can develop Alkalosis which occurs when the blood is too alkaline (pH rises above 7.45), This can cause muscle twitching, hand tremors, light-headedness, and nausea. In extreme cases, it may lead to muscle spasms or convulsions so keeping the right balance is vital for healthy living and fighting disease.

Adopting holistic approaches can help restore and maintain the body's natural pH balance.

Dietary Adjustments:

    • Increase Alkaline Foods: Incorporate more fruits and vegetables, such as leafy greens, avocados, and berries, my personal favourite is sour sop all which have alkalizing effects on the body. You can check out my website sacredrootshealthdrinks.co.uk for free recipes and some approved alkaline foods.
    • Limit Acidic Foods: Reduce intake of processed foods, red meats, and refined sugars, as they can contribute to increased acidity. To sweeten use natural honey or agave syrup if you don't want to give up fast food's meats and other acidic natural food its possible to balance by occasionally fasting giving the body chance to remove undigested foods.

Hydration:

    • Alkaline Water: Drinking water with a higher pH can help neutralize acidity. Ensure adequate daily water intake to support kidney function in regulating pH levels. If using bottled water its important to still check ingredients.

Stress Management:

    • Mindfulness Practices: Engage in yoga, meditation (doesn't have to be in lotus position just have to be comfortable and relaxed for example I lay on the couch and listen to pink Floyd), or deep-breathing exercises to reduce stress, which can influence pH balance.

Regular Physical Activity:

    • Exercise: Regular movement and sweating help remove acidic waste from the body and improve breathing patterns, aiding in pH balance try a brisk walk for 20 mins a day.

Probiotics:

Gut Health: Consuming probiotics through supplements or fermented foods like yogurt and kefir can support a balanced internal environment, its important to cleanse colon with de worming. There are many holistic remedies for de worming my favourite a mild cleanse in which I use whole papaya seeds fresh from the papaya eat them whole do not chew or they will lose their magnetism or for a more powerful cleanse I use wormwood but seek advice before using this because too much can be toxic.

Conclusion: Maintaining the body's natural pH balance is a cornerstone of holistic health and well-being. By understanding the role of pH in our biological processes, we can take proactive steps to support our bodies through diet, hydration, stress management, physical activity, and gut health. Striking the right balance helps create an internal environment where diseases struggle to thrive, promoting overall vitality and resilience.

The journey to optimal health begins with informed choices and a commitment to nurturing our bodies holistically. By embracing these practices, we not only improve our physical health but also foster a deeper connection to our well-being. Through education, mindfulness, and conscious living, we can empower ourselves to lead healthier, more balanced lives.

Whether through dietary changes, movement, or the simple act of staying hydrated, the path to a thriving, alkaline body is achievable and sustainable. Together, we can reclaim our health and live vibrantly in harmony with nature.
